  • No. :) We are a married couple who loves hiking and foraging for our own mushrooms to eat, but we typically do not have the time or bandwidth to forage enough mushrooms to sell seasonally. Simply put, we hike and forage for leisure and farm for work.

We recommend looking into Field & Forest, based in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, if you’re interested in purchasing kits to grow your own mushrooms:

If you’re looking to purchase specialty and/or foraged mushrooms, Mushroom Mike, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, may have found what you need:

  • Our mushroom-growing substrate is made of industry-standard ingredients for mushroom compost and agaricus bisporus production, including wheat straw from horse bedding, lime, canola meal, chicken manure and lots of water. We follow industry-standard practices of steam-pasteurizing compost for several days before any mushrooms are spawned in it.

  • Yes! We are a 365-day-a-year indoor operation and we make a new batch of compost every week. We dispose of the spent mushroom growing compost once a week and you can purchase it on Monday mornings only, starting at 7 a.m., year-round.

    Happy cooking!

  • You’re on it! Thanks for looking us up.

  • No, we do not ship our mushrooms direct-to-consumer. Mushrooms typically do not travel well while unrefrigerated. We recommend that you visit a Wisconsin grocer and look for mushrooms from the Eden, Campbellsport and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin areas. Those are all grown at our little farm!

  • Simon’s, the owner of the farm, grandma Irene used to say that you can freeze anything, and we agree. For better thawing and a tastier dish, you may want to slice and saute the mushrooms before freezing.

  • We do not host events at the farm itself, but we often participate in local farmer dinners, such as at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts and LaClare Family Creamery. Keep an eye out on our Instagram and Facebook pages for our presence on the menus of upcoming events!

  • We do not give tours to the general public. Mushrooms can be sensitive to many outside contaminants, including bacteria, competing fungi and molds, and other pests like flies. Just a few dirty fingers, shirt sleeves or shoes can wreak havoc on our indoor farm system.

However, we do consider giving brief tours to groups of 15 or less people for official garden, school and other nonprofit groups. Send us an email with your group description, party number and proposed date and time of a tour and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
